Project details

Initial situation

On a narrow existing balcony, we were to create a fixed daybed-style solution. The structure had to fit along the façade and keep the window sill clear. A low build-up height and clean edges were important because it would be used as a seating and lounging surface.

Execution

We built the carcass from wood panels with an internal frame and cross bracing. We placed supports and stiffeners so the surface remains continuously load-bearing. We fastened from the inside or concealed, and sanded all visible edges. We installed the backrest as a continuous board and divided the platform into segments.

Result

We delivered a stable terrace bench with a level, comfortable lounging surface. It is integrated precisely into the balcony niche, while circulation space and connections remain usable. Neatly sanded surfaces reduce the risk of splinters and sharp edges. It works as a weather-protected lounge area and as a robust storage surface.

Why panels on a frame?

We use this method for balconies with limited space because it achieves high stiffness with a low overall height.
