Project details
The brief was a carport for four vehicles, directly connected to the existing building. A translucent roof was required so the adjacent living area would not lose daylight. There also had to be no internal posts obstructing parking and vehicle movement.
We designed and installed a structure made of prefabricated BSH timber elements with knee braces and statically optimized spans. The new structure was anchored to the existing building and configured as an open interior area without center posts. Finally, we added translucent roofing as weather protection for the entire parking zone.
The result is a contiguous weather-protected carport area of about 6 x 9 meters for four vehicles. Vehicles can be parked and used comfortably because no internal posts are in the way. The translucent roof keeps the adjacent area bright and practical for daily use.
For multi-vehicle carports, span design, bracing and the connection to the existing building are critical. That is how you keep the area open and structurally safe.
